Milky Way from Shrine Pass

Design by the Antzl Project * Night Lights: The Milky Way from Shrine Pass
July 15, 2012 – Summit County, Colorado
This Stellar Tuesday I bring Milky Way Panoramic over the Ten Mile Range as seen from Shrine Pass. The lights on the left are coming from Frisco, Copper Mountain, and I-70. The softer light on the right is from the more distant town of Breckenridge, Colorado.
About the Shot: I had a bunch of family in town this past week who were hoping to get a chance to see the Milky Way. With the current position of the band of Clouds, Dust, and Stars I chose Shrine Pass for its broad view of the sky which is not always easy to find in the mountains. The Milky Way stretched out completely across our field of view and I only captures a small bit of it here. It was still relatively early at 10:30 pm for viewing the night sky and being so the sky has a softer glow.

Gore Range in Summit County, Colorado: This image was shot on the night of the Lyrid Meteor Shower from Mayflower Gulch of the Ten Mile Range. I was looking for a scene to compose when I found this but I felt that this view was too far from the “origin” point of the Meteor shower. I figured that I would come back and work this shot over at another date but I was surprised when I got home to what I had in a single frame. The cloud is reflecting light from Copper Mountain Village near I-70.
Lightroom: Although there was some light reflecting on the peaks from the Climax Molybdenum Mine, I used the adjustment brush in Lightroom to warm the peaks slightly.
