Being a Landscape and Astro-Photographer here in Summit County, Colorado, I am afforded many opportunities to photograph the night sky. This year has been no exception and when you take a look at the fine details of my new images, you may see them a little sharper this year. With the new combination of a better body – Canon 7D – along with my trusty sidekick: Canon 24mm 1.4, a refined shooting technique, and some Post Processing in Lightroom 4.0, I believe I am capturing some of my sharpest images to date of the night sky.
This shot was supposed to contain Lyrid Meteors but alas they dodged my frame when pointed into this scene during the Meteor Shower. As it happens so often in Photography, the scene envisioned is not the scene captured. I was able to manage to capture some Airplane traffic, as well as satellite streaks but no Lyrids. I seldom include images of contrails, airplane lights, and satellite streaks in images I deem as succesful. To me they are another form of pollution. The above image is my favorite from a set of about 50 or more.
